Inspection methods

Proven quality – thanks to system, technology and experience

Every inspection is only as good as the procedure which lies in the basis of it.

Thor Engineering Services & Expert Office GmbH offers a comprehensive range of non-destructive, image-based and specialized testing methods – carried out by experienced specialists with a sound understanding of standards.

→ VT – Visual Testing

Traditional visual inspection by qualified personnel

  • Inspection of welds, surfaces, component geometries

  • Detection of deformations, cracks, inclusions, corrosion & tarnishing colors

  • Documentation via checklist and photographic evidence

  • Carried out according to DIN EN ISO 17637 / ISO 5817

→ VT - Endoscopic visual inspection

Professionally inspected areas that are inaccessible or hard-to-see

  • Use of state-of-the-art endoscopes & camera systems (e.g. VUMAN E3+, SNK Ultra 365)

  • Ideal for the interiors spaces of tanks, pipelines and equipment

  • Live broadcast, recording, image archiving

  • Optionally with structured test reports & release status

→ PT - Dye Penetrant Test

Non-destructive testing for fine surface cracks

  • Testing for hairline cracks, pores, welding defects in metallic materials

  • Multi-step process: cleaning, penetrant, developer, evaluation

  • Particularly effective on non-magnetic materials

  • Application according to DIN EN ISO 3452

→ Digital inspection of plastic weld seams

Process safety for thermoplastic pipe- and tank systems

  • Visual inspection & parameter evaluation of weld seams on heating element and sleeves

  • Reading of welding data from electronic protocols (e.g. DataLoggers)

  • Verification against manufacturer's specifications and standard regulations

  • Weld seams on pipelines up to D240 performed with the WBI tool from GF and the corresponding documentation Rohrleitungsschweißungen bis D240

  • Used in the chemical and semiconductor industries, among others

→ Cleanliness test / Riboflavin Test

Validated cleaning control for hygienically critical systems

  • Detection of residues in cleaning processes using fluorescent substances

  • Use of UV light to make weak points visible

  • Typically used in GMP environments, pharmaceuticals, food industry, semiconductors production

  • Implementation and evaluation in according to customer-specific or regulatory requirements

➕ Other inspections methods

(optionally in combination)

  • MT (magnetic particle testing) - for ferromagnetic components

  • UT (Ultrasonic testing) - wall thickness measurement

  • RT (Radiographic testing) - X-ray inspection of weld seams

  • Pressure test - hydrostatic / pneumatic, with monitoring and protocol

  • Wall thickness and residual wall analysis - with UT devices

What is safe is what has been documented and verified in a comprehensible traceable manner.
